OVERVIEW
The Great Disconnect is a thesis project that delves into how internet and social media usage is reshaping attention, emotional regulation, and connection—especially among younger generations. It addresses the widening gap between digital consumption and real-world engagement, offering a valuable creative and educational resource for both classrooms and parents.
I took the lead on the design, layout, and illustrations for the workbook, translating research-informed insights from psychology students, educators, and online sources into approachable, interactive visuals. While the core content was derived from these research sources and assisted by AI, I focused on maintaining a consistent tone, clarity, and engaging visual storytelling.
The workbook is structured for group or educational use, featuring activities that foster awareness, reflection, conversation, and intentional screen use. A standout feature allows students to capture moments with a sticker-printing camera—a concept developed in collaboration with Kodak—that encourages offline creativity while still integrating technology in a tangible way. Additionally, there’s a dedicated section for parents, guiding them through the same material to help them understand the impact of digital media on their children and inspiring family discussions about healthy habits.
Although the project is still in development, early educator feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about incorporating it into their classrooms. The project prioritizes clarity, empathy, and usability, utilizing design to enhance learning rather than overwhelm students. It exemplifies how visual communication can connect complex research with actionable strategies for real-world engagement.
